An off-duty police officer began saving the life of a motorcyclist who lost consciousness in a collision with another bike tonight.
The collision happened around 7pm near Pompano Beach Road on Middle Road, Southampton.
A police spokesman said an off-duty officer who was at the scene “started saving lives” before colleagues and first responders arrived.
The spokesperson said in a statement: “Initial reports suggest a man was traveling east on a motorcycle when another man on an auxiliary cycle, also eastbound, attempted to overtake the motorcyclist, causing the vehicles to collide.
“As a result, the motorcyclist remained unresponsive.
“Rescue efforts were initiated by an off-duty police officer who fell at the scene.
“The motorcyclist was resuscitated at the scene and transported to King Edward Memorial Hospital for further treatment of his injuries.
“The auxiliary cyclist was also taken to hospital for treatment of arm injuries.
“Traffic is diverted through the Railway Trail using a one-lane system.
“Traffic delays are to be expected as police process the scene.”
